Objectives:

  • Providing emotional support to students on an individual basis
  • Helping students overcome homesickness
  • Establishing rapport between teachers, students & parents
  • Monitoring attendance and behavioral aspects of every student
  • Identifying weak areas and working out remedies helping students thereby taking their complete care.
  • Active and constant participation of the parents is always encouraged and appreciated.

Guidelines for Mentors

  1. Each mentor is allotted with a batch of students.
  2. Mentors should conduct at least six meetings per session with the mentees.
  3. The mentors will keep a record of the attendance of mentees in each meeting.
  4. Mentors should maintain records of all the meetings held with mentees/ parents.
  5. The academic, personal, or any other issue raised by the mentees and the problems addressed/Solved by the mentors must be recorded.
  6. The mentors shall also attend to the academic matters of mentees dealing with previous academic performance, internal assessment marks, university examination results and Career coaching.
  7. In the review meeting, immediately after the Internal Assessment tests and the results, the mentor shall appreciate the mentees who have performed well. The mentor shall interact with the mentees who have not done well or failed in the internals and advise them to improve their performance.
  8. The mentor shall extend all possible assistance to improve the academic performance of the mentee. In both the cases mentioned above e-mail/post will be sent to the parents/guardians on the performance of their son/daughter/ward.
  9. Mentors should take care of mentee’s batches for academic interests and support them for improvement.
  10. Mentors should encourage students for extracurricular activities within the institute and at the University as well as inter-university level.
  11. Mentors should interact with parents only in case of extreme situations.
  12. Mentors should provide information about possible financial assistance available to mentees.
  13. The record has to be handed over to the new mentor in case mentors are transferred.
  14. An annual report in the form of a summary must be prepared by each Mentor and to be submitted to the convener of the student mentoring cell.

Aspects of Mentor’s Review of His / Her Mentees

·         Emotional Quotient (EQ).  The Mentor must ensure the development of the Emotional Quotient of the students for the growth of multiple intelligences.

·         Attendance: The mentor shall observe the attendance of the mentee. The mentor shall advise and take necessary actions about the attendance of the mentee with regard to college and affiliating University rules.

·         Academic matters: During the continuous assessment of the mentee, the mentor shall keep track of the overall academic performance of the mentee through counseling, by arranging remedial teaching, if necessary.

·         Behavioral and discipline Matters

·         Health and Physical well-being

·         Achievements, Talent and Co-curricular activities

Care and Counseling

  • The mentor during the periodic review meeting shall counsel the students. The well-behaved students shall be appreciated and others shall be properly cared for and counselled.

Personality Development

  • The mentor shall encourage the mentee to develop and channelize his/her skills and talents through an appropriate forum or activity of the institution (fine arts, sports, workshops, conferences, etc.).
  • These are aimed at the overall development of the personality of the student so as to make him a complete person.

  1. Introduction of group and discussion of the mentor–mentee system.
  2. Call of meeting and record of details in the form of goal setting and action planning, SWOC analysis, and mentoring session.
  3. Keep a track record of attendance academic, performance, and behavioral aspects.
  4. Support to the student academically and emotionally.
  5. Contact to parents and to inform them about the progress of their ward.
  6. Arrange remedial teaching, if necessary
  7. Select a spokesperson/representative for the group
  8. Collect data of mentees & maintain a file (Profiling the students)
  9. On locating their need for marked improvement in certain subjects, refer the same to respective Heads of Departments
  10. Track the attendance record & identify dropouts, if any, and prepare a Review Report
  11. Ensure frequent value-added student visits to the library
  12. Motivate them to take part in activities that can accrue more credits
  13. Identify reasons for poor performance & attach a note (illness, domestic disturbances, personal obstacles & so on)
  14. Ensure the holistic well-being of the Mentee
